Washington Artillery Veterans Association

THE WASHINGTON ARTILLERY VETERANS ASSOCIATION

The purpose of this organization is as written in its Preamble:

To perpetuate the Spirit of the Washington Artillery,

To stimulate love of our country and the flag,

And

Ever to cherish and keep alive the friendships made
in war and peace, during service in the old command.

We unite to form the Washington Artillery Veterans Association.

So with the help of St. Barbara, our Patron Saint,

LET THE BATTERIES OPEN

(Order given by General Longstreet to the Washington Artillery,
to fire the signal for Pickett’s Charge)

LET US HAVE CONTINUOUS FIRE

(Continuous Fire was the motto of the 935th FA,
the second battalion of the Washington Artillery)

AND

TRY US!

(Since 1858 the motto of the Battalion Washington Artillery)

The Washington Artillery Veterans Association, known as WAVA, was formed in January 1965 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the call up of the Washington Artillery into federal service in 1941.

All former members of the Washington Artillery, including those who served in the Spanish-American War, The Mexican Border Campaign of 1916, World War I, World War II, and those who served in peacetime, were invited to join.

Today, this “Alumni Organization” is over 300 members strong and easily identified by the red jackets they wear to all battalion functions.

Any former member or current active member of the battalion is eligible for membership. The enrollment fee is only   $15.00 annually ($150.00) will buy a life time membership). The Association meets every third Tuesday of the month.
